45 influential leaders, led by former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad signed the Citizens’ Declaration calling for Najib’s removal as Prime Minister, the removal of those who have acted in concert with him, a repeal of all recent laws which violated fundamental human rights and the restoration of integrity of institutions that had allegedly been undermined.
The declaration signed by Malaysians from various backgrounds and parties to demand that Najib step down from the country’s leadership.
The declaration, titled “Citizens Declaration”, among others calls for Najib’s removal as well as “those in concert with him”. It was signed by 45 individuals, including Dr Mahathir’s wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, who was also present today. In his speech, Dr Mahathir said those present were there as citizens and not representatives of their political parties.
Reading from the declaration, he said Najib’s administration had inflicted damage to the nation and caused Malaysia to be listed as among the most corrupt nations. He said Najib’s removal from office must be through non-violent and “legally permissible means”.
